Creep Street Men’s Feast on Flesh Tee: I want your brains!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

A 50’s inspired zombie graces this stunning red men’s tee from Creep Street. Covering a sizable portion of the shirt, the leprous looking fellow reaches out for a helping hand, but you know he’s really after your brains! With text in the lower left corner of the zombie print saying “Feast on Flesh” in a ghoulish font, this shirt is pure zombie. Made of 100% cotton, there is a tiny logo on the sleeve, but it’s pretty inoffensive so could probably be ignored, or easily removed. Currently on sale at Karma Loop. I did not find a specific movie associated with this tee (was hoping for some fabulous cheezeball flick from the 70’s or something) but I did like the plot of this almost-properly-named film, Placer Sangriento (1967), which translates to “feast of flesh.”

Squidfire Men’s Monster Hoodie: striking graphic

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

What an arresting, bold and wonderful monster hoodie from indie clothiers Squidfire! Large yellow eyes, a red nose and angry spiked teeth suggest you step away from the monster. I find the sweatshirt especially charming as this must be how my cat, Kingston, imagines himself. A three color print on a brown American Apparel hoodie, made of 100% cotton with a front marsupial pocket for your hands.

Earth Women’s Summit Boots: winter wonderland!

Monday, February 18th, 2008

I am strongly smitten with these tall and striking women’s snow boots from Earth. Who knew I would need a pair of over the calf, white furry boots to finish out the winter season and greet the coming of Spring? Heavily inspired by the Alaskan mukluk, the nubuck uppers are trimmed with exposed fleece. Heavy D-rings and all weather lug soles make these boots practical as well as stylish for cold weather. Choose from one of five colors and enjoy warm, dry toes on the slopes. These boots feature hand sewn construction for superior flexibility and comfort. I own a couple of Earth shoes already - a slip-on mary jane style similar to the Allure, and a zip up boot style like the Montage. In warmer weather I pretty much live in the slip-ons which are very comfortable, have nice high arches, and makes me feel more balanced. The boot style I own is very attractive and very snuggly, so I am pretty much sold on their signature negative heel technology and general approach.

No Mas- Manolete Shirt

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

I am certainly not a fan of Bullfighting, and yes I’ve actually been to one to witness the “grace and beauty” of the “sport”. My big problem with it is essentially the same problem I have with hunting. It’s not a fair fight. If you have the insane necessity to pick a fight with the creatures of nature, I’d rather see you fight a bear with a pocket knife…seriously, I’d pay to see Ted Nugent fight a bear with a pocket knife. Bullfighting is dangerous, and there are Matadors that get injured…but c’mon, the bull gets picked with spears by dudes on horses until it’s almost dead, it’s a pretty clear cut case of unprovoked cruelty. The ratio of dead bulls to Matadors probably sums it up best, the deck is stacked. I’d like to see maybe a mechanical bullfight? Man vs. robotic bull in a dual to the death, perhaps the guys on horses can still ride around and try to poke holes in Robobull with their spears. That being said the imagery of the bullfight is often pretty wonderful, and this is a nice t-shirt design for the celebrated Spanish Matador Manolete who was a casualty in one of those rare cases of Bull victory. Victory in the sense that the bull lived probably a few minutes longer than he would have.

Whitehorse - Men’s Save Electricity Tee

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

We are big fans of simplicity here at Birdfight. This nice bright cobalt t-shirt with the white lightning stripe is a winner. The shirt has a bolt on the back with the words “save electricity” which might be a bit unnecessary. Recently I read this story about a knee brace being developed which will capture kinetic energy generated by walking. The brace supposedly generates enough juice to power 10 cell phones.

Plushoff Plush Banana Toy: home-made banana goodness

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

I am totally smitten with this home-made plush flannel banana toy. Maybe I can get one and fill it with catnip for Kingston, thus creating an excuse to own one since I am child free. Brought to you by Etsy seller Plushoff, who is a crafty stay at home mom, she offers a veritable smorgasbord of fun plush possibilities, including bacon and a t-bone steak. Ms. Banana is 10 inches tall and two inches wide, and can be slipped out of her peel as desired. Maybe you have room in your stuffed animal collection for this little yellow fruit.

Etnies Twitch- A Moto-x Champ

Friday, February 15th, 2008

A nice modern skate shoe from Etnies with design help from freestyle moto-x rider Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg. The slim fit shoe has a suede upper and bandana detailing. The only thing that is garishly over the top is the lame logo on the laces…maybe you can pry it off with a nice sharp knife! It looks like it is sitting on the laces so maybe it just slips off…
